Forgettable Weekend for Madsen

petersen-media-madsen-sydney-cushionPETERSEN MEDIA- Returning home to the Sydney Speedway to take on the World Series Sprint Series, Ian Madsen had easily his worst weekend of the season as he scored an 11th place finish after coming from the B on Friday night, and missed out on the feature on Saturday night.

“We’ve had an amazing season so far, and last weekend, was just one of those weekends you don’t wish upon anyone,” Madsen said.

Getting underway on Friday night, Madsen’s qualifying effort was 20th quick, putting him behind the eight-ball early, but the Sydney Speedway Speedweek Champion was poised to turn his night around.

An eighth place finish in his heat was not what the Watson’s Express Transport/Australia Wide Towing/Lucas Oil team was looking for as they were forced into the B main, where they started in the 16th spot.

With his work cut out for him to make the feature, Madsen put on the best drive of the night as he carved his way up to the third spot, as transferred into the A, where he gridded the field from the 17th spot.

Starting deep in the field, Madsen was focused on gaining as many spots in the feature to salvage the night, as well as earn points for the Saturday event.

Working up to the 11th spot, Madsen was a little disappointed in himself when the night drew to a close.

“We had a much better car than this, but unfortunately I went backwards in my heat, and that forced us deep in the B, and put us pretty far back in the feature. My guys did a great job all night, I just made some mistakes.”

Saturday night didn’t get any better for Madsen however, as he scored a sixth in his first heat, before recording a DNF in his second heat, again putting him in the B in the 16th spot.

This night however, the track was much tougher to make passes on, and Madsen moved up to the ninth spot, and did not transfer into the feature event.

“Again it came back to our heat races,” he said. “We had some bad luck in our second heat, and didn’t make any points, and buried us in the B again. We will move forward from this weekend and look to get back in the winner’s circle.”

Madsen would like to thank Watson’s Express Transport, Australia Wide Towing, Lucas Oil, EJF Engineering, Mike Hughes & Partners, City Access Scaffolding, Blackshaw’s Motor Body Repairs, ButlerBuilt, and Factory Kahne Shocks for their continued support.
