Ian Madsen has had some tough luck in all of his World of Outlaw starts this year, but on Saturday night at the Deer Creek Speedway he was dominant as he scored his first career series win.
“It is so awesome to finally win a World of Outlaws win,” Madsen said. “These are tough to win, and to do it with this team is awesome. It’s our first year together, and we keep getting stronger on a weekly basis.”
With 27 cars on hand for the event, Madsen timed his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractor Supply machine in seventh fastest, putting him on the front row of his heat race.
Getting the jump on David Gravel, Madsen went on to score the heat win aboard his Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes of Iowa/Stepping Stone Genetics entry, earning him a berth in the Dash, where he found himself on the front row.
Sharing the front row with Craig Dollansky, Madsen was able to grab the lead, and go on to pick up the win, putting himself on the pole for the 35-lap feature event.
With Dollansky getting the jump on the St. Mary’s, NSW driver, Madsen chased after him for the first five laps, until Dollansky pulled off the speedway, and surged into the lead on the sixth lap.
Aboard a very strong racecar, Madsen distanced himself from Daryn Pittman, as he set a torrid pace.
A couple of cautions bunched the field back up, but Madsen was too good on this night, and went on to pick up the win by 4.5 seconds over Pittman.
“It has always been a dream of mine to win an Outlaw race, and its unbelievable to finally do this,” Madsen said. “I really can’t put this into words, it’s just very special to me.”
Madsen was in action on Friday night in Spencer, IA, and did not have the night that they had hoped for, racing so close to one of their sponsor’s homes.
After getting involved in an early incident, Madsen rebounded to a 16th place finish.
