After putting together a strong weekend at the Valvoline Raceway in Sydney, AU, Ian Madsen and his McDonald Motorsports team were in action with the WSS over the weekend in Brisbane, and they did not have the weekend they were looking for.
“It’s a little frustrating for all of us,” Madsen said. “We seem to have plenty of speed, but a little bit of bad luck at inopportune time really hurts us.”
Madsen kicked the two day show off by timing his Watson’s Express Transport/Eagle Motorsports/East Coast Logistics machine in 15th quickest.
On the opening lap of his first heat, Madsen was involved in a wreck that saw him lose valuable event points, as he was unable to restart.
Fixing as much as they could for the second heat, Madsen was able to make the call, but was unable to do much in a battered racecar, and after heat races, he sat 20th in points, with only 18 making the feature, and his night was over.
Back in action on Saturday night, Madsen and his team showed up on a mission, as Madsen scored second and first place finishes in his heat, putting himself in the MidPack Dash.
Running second in the event, Madsen was eligible for the top-8 shootout, but he damaged an issue, and his team scrambled to get him out for the feature event.
Starting 8th in the feature event, the Sydney, NSW driver worked his way inside the top-five, but some contact late in the feature hampered him, and he slipped back to a 10th place finish.
“It seems that on a weekly basis I am forced to show how good of a team I have, by the way they are able to make changes or get things replaced, and because of that that means we had some bad luck leading to that, putting us in a hole,” he said. “I have to thank all of my guys for their hard work, and I’m hoping that we can right the ship with some big races coming up.”
None of this would be possible without a ton of support, and Madsen would like to thank Watson’s Express Transport, Eagle Motorsports, East Coast Logistics, Lucas Oil , Interstate Finance and Leasing, Gin Gin Diesel, Adornato Sand and Gravel, QSS Spares, Oval Express, Inglis Race Engines, and Factory Kahne Shocks for everything they will be doing for this team.
