Ian Madsen Second at Knoxville

Taking on the World of Outlaws as well as continuing to chase the Knoxville Championship Cup points, Ian Madsen had a very nice weekend highlighted by a second place run at Knoxville.

“I think we had a pretty good weekend,” Madsen said. “Leonard Lee and I continue to gel, and on Saturday he gave me a really good car, I just got beat.”

With 36 410ci Sprint Cars checked into the pit area, Madsen timed his Nehring Construction/Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply entry in seventh fastest, putting him in the second row of his heat race, where he finished fourth.

Finding himself on the pole for the 20-lap feature event, Madsen got off to a great start as Dusty Zomer and Brian Brown chased after him.

Looking strong on this night, Madsen led the duration of the event until they got into traffic and Brown closed in on him. With the battle up front heating up, the caution waived, giving the leaders a clear track.

Back underway, Madsen led the way, and as he paced the field, he got back into traffic in the closing laps, and Brown was able to get by him on the 19th lap, and Madsen would settle for a second place finish, but in doing so, he moved to second in the KCC standings.

“We had a great car, but I just got beat there in traffic by Brian Brown,” he said. “I am so happy with how things are going for this KCP team.”

Friday night in Wilmot, WI, Madsen was in action with the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series.

Timing in 12th fastest, Madsen was on the front row of his heat, and getting the jump, Madsen was penalized for jumping the start, and ended up finishing in the fourth spot, putting him in the seventh row for the feature event.

During a very dicey feature event, Madsen was able to work his way as high as the 11th spot, but ultimately settled for a 13th place finish.
