Ian Madsen Picks Off Huset’s Opener

Dating back to the 2013 season, Ian Madsen has been on a roll at the Huset’s Speedway as his opening night win on Saturday night marked his third straight win at the facility.

“It is great to grab another win with the KCP Racing team,” Madsen said. “We had a great car all night, and it was a pleasure to drive.”

On a tacky and rough surface, Madsen timed his Nehring Construction/Team Kline Electric/Logan Contractors Supply No. 18 in seventh fastest.

After some quick track prep before heat races, Madsen lined up in the third spot, and on the locked down surface, he finished in the fourth spot, putting him in the feature event, where he found his Royal Flooring/Greenland Homes of IA/QTC Machine on the front row.

Starting on the front row of the feature, Madsen was on a completely different level than the rest of the field as he was in command out front.

The only thing that seemed to slow Madsen on this night was a few cautions, and the restarts put Craig Dollansky on his tail, but Dollansky could only hang with Madsen for a few laps, before Madsen got away, and went on to pick up his win.

“I didn’t realize we had won three-in-a-row here dating back to last year, so that is pretty cool,” he added. “We were really good, and to nail our restarts with Craig Dollansky on our tail was huge.”

Saturday night Madsen was back at the Knoxville Raceway, looking to duplicate his opening night performance and pick up another win.

With 33 cars on hand, Madsen was just a tick off in time trials, and timed in 12th fastest, putting him in the fourth heat where he ran in the second position.

Lining up in the 10th spot, Madsen would pick up a few positions and end his night with an eighth place finish, but keep his spot at second in the standings.

“We just need to get qualified a little better,” Madsen said. “With such a tough group of cars each night, we can’t dig ourselves a hole. We are really happy with the way things are going, we just know we can be better.”
